Coaching
for New Faculty Developers
When working
pro-actively, faculty developers inspire and support the teachers with
whom we work. Whether helping a new teacher with their first course or
a full professor teach online, we connect teachers to new approaches,
their students, and each other.
In re-active
mode, faculty development can be thought of as a healing profession. We
are definitely not therapists, but teachers do suffer when they are scared,
burned out, or at cross-purposes with their students. As faculty developers,
we can help ease that suffering by diagnosing instructional difficulties
and coaching our clients toward practical solutions.
Regardless
of the teaching circumstance, the role of the faculty developer is multi-faceted
and ever-changing. That's what makes it such a great job.
